3" Dual Pyrometer by Isspro

  • 3" dual gauge with with a 100° sweep on each of the meters
  • Uses two Type K thermocouples
  • Reduce fuel consumption
  • Save on engine wear
  • Avoid engine lugging as indicated by higher temperatures
  • Save on turbo wear by letting exhaust gas temperatures cool down to safe temperatures before shutting down; thermocouple is normally located near the turbo-charger
  • Upgrade your equipment; exhaust temperature gauges are now standard on most new vehicles

Excessive heat is one enemy of the turbocharger. The maximum input of a turbocharger is approximately 1400°F. Temperatures above this will deteriorate the turbo housings, crack them, and foul the compressor wheels. Intake and exhaust manifolds as well as cylinders will crack. A pyrometer is an exhaust temperature gauge that allows you to read an immediate change in exhaust temperature by receiving a signal from a probe (thermocouple) that is inserted into the exhaust manifold.

Most diesel and gas engines range from 0-300° bottom end of the scale to 1500°F top end of scale. To determine your safe maximum exhaust temperature, run a well-tuned engine at full rpm and horsepower on the inertia dynamometer or under a loaded pull. Note the exhaust temperature and subtract 200 degrees. This is your safe maximum exhaust temperature. The temperature may be exceeded for a short period and will not cause serious damage. Stay in the upper third of your temperature as much as possible. Operation in the lower range isn't as critical as exceeding the maximum range.
